Spring things?

Well, we really shouldn't be too surprised. With global climate changes, the weather is just going to get weirder and weirder. This spring has been all over the place. Today, it's close to 80. Tomorrow, the high is in the high 30s. We're all over the place and the barometric pressure is killing my sinuses.

One of the nice things in this delayed spring is that I have had longer to think about whether or not I am going to be gardening this year. With how bad my allergies are (and my hip/back), I am not sure I should even be gardening at all. The main problem though is that I don't live near enough for any CSA options and even though the Wichita farmer's markets are awesome, they are too far away to make it there every week. All this to say, I planted some spinach today. Not a lot, just the seeds I had leftover from last year. I realize I say this every year, but my goal this year is to keep my garden to the basics. Spinach. One or two tomatoes. Zinnias. Sunflowers. If my tomatoes fail again this year. I will maybe need to rethink my life.

In other news, I've really fallen out of the habit of blogging every weekend. Because of delayed spring (and after being in sunny Florida), I've had cabin fever like crazy. Nothing seems that interesting enough to write about. I've also been eating healthy for 4 weeks now, which really bums me out because that means I am not baking anything on the weekends.

But flipping through my photos, I realize that a few nice things have happened over the past weeks. I should be grateful and note them. Here they are

Nice spring things:

1. Spring means Easter. Even if Easter is 30 degrees, cloudy and windy, which it was again this year. (At least it didn't snow). Levent's parents were actually out here from Ohio that weekend. They were mostly in Hutch with Levent's grandpa, but they did come up to Hesston on Saturday. We took a chilly, windy walk to the Perk for afternoon coffee, Levent and I made Turkish Lentil soup (or Leventil soup) and hummus for supper and then we watched the worst March Madness KU game ever. (But we'll skip over that part).
This is how I was feeling during the KU game
On Easter Sunday, Levent and I went down to Hutch and brunched with his parents, visited his grandpa and generally hung out until after supper time.
2. Warmer weather, depsite crazy wind, means that I can start going on walks again. I met up with my friend Amy to go on an evening walk recently. That's good for my hip and my soul.
We had to drive to the park with Amy's daughter so we could walk. That's why this picture of Samson is in the car. I promise you we did actually walk.
3. It's slowly starting to get lighter outside earlier in the morning. This means that it is (kind of) getting easier to get up and do some yoga before I go to work.
My constant yoga buddy/nuisance
4. Happy hour with friends that includes sitting on a front porch. I attribute this to my very limited time living in North Carolina. But I am totally more of a front porch person then a backyard deck. (This is also because my parents have a front porch in Asheville and it's amazing). Anyway, yesterday one of my colleagues had a happy hour at her house where her husband taught us about different wines and olive oils. I learned so much! And it was super tasty. (Plus, I finally got to meet Esma the cat).
I am actually going to be in rainy Seattle next week for work. I am hoping that when I get back, the weather will be warm, but mild. But these days, who really knows what we'll find. It's such a wild card. As my sister used to tell her 1st grade class, "Kansas is tricky!" Well, so is global climate change.

Happy pseudo-spring everyone!
