Memorial Day Weekend
Oh hey.
I haven't blogged for awhile but I am happy to announce that I finally got a new macbook and so I am in the process of bidding farewell to the old, faithful dinosaur mac I had been using. This means that it is so much easier to download photos off my camera, edit them and actually use them in my blogs. So exciting. Plus, typing on this new keyboard is so satisfying.
I realize we are deep in to June right now but I am going to zip us back to the end of May, Memorial Day weekend to be more specific.
This year, Levent's parents and younger brother, Blake, came out to Kansas for the long weekend. Often on these long weekends that aren't focused around any of the high holidays tend to make me feel slightly sad. I imagine everyone is grilling things with their family, which is exactly what I want to be doing on Memorial day. The only thing is that all my family lives east of the Mississippi river. But aha! I didn't have to have that feeling at all this year thanks to Levent's family.
We did the obligatory Hutch visits to Levent's extended family (and let me tell you, I figured out the secret to these gatherings. Draw butterflies! I was as happy as can be sitting in the living coloring. I realize that makes me sound like I am 5 years old but there you go).
But on Sunday, we hung out just the 5 of us. We met Levent's parents in Wichita for brunch at my favorite brunch place in Wichita, HomeGrown. Then, we zipped over to WSU to see their current (and hella weird) art exhibit. Afterwards, we chilled at my house. I made Levent a very lemony cake in honor of his upcoming birthday and the Miller's grilled up some kebabs on the Shish they brought with them. (It made me want to get one as it made grilling kebabs look so easy. You should really see what Levent or I have to do when I try to make kebabs on my round grill).
Thanks for the lovely (and tasty) long weekend, Millers!
