Covid-vacation to Colorado

There was a moment in time when we did stuff this year. That moment of September. With the cooler weather and a less hectic Sherwin-Williams schedule came the opportunity to get out of Kansas briefly.

We headed to the Nederland, CO area and stayed in an Airbnb "cabin." We really hadn't taken a break since Christmas 2019. So by the time we got to our vacation home, we were completely wiped out.

With the low emotional and physical energy that comes from living in a global pandemic, we opted to take it easy instead of Hike! Hike! Hike! the whole time.

The first full day was a Sunday. We slept in, had brunch outside a coffee shop and then went to Mud Lake, which is an "open area." (I am not sure how this is different from a park). We walked around the lake and then had a small picnic. It was low key and perfect for where we were in that moment.

On Monday we did our "medium hike" at Rainbow Lakes. Even though it was not a "hard hike" (according to the internet), I, of course, huffed and puffed the whole time. Regardless, it was a lovely day.

Tuesday was our last full day. We hiked to Lake Isabelle (via Brainard Lake Recreation Area). This was our hardest and longest hike. It was also the most beautiful. I am glad we saved it for last. Our little pup Tito turned out to be a born hiker due to his high energy. We needed breaks. He never did.

This was my first hiking trip with hiking sticks and let me tell you, it changed my life. Despite all the uphill and downhill paths, my hip and knees faired pretty well.

Tito was completely wiped out after the 8 mile hike though

For every evening meal, we would head to Nederland to get take out to take back to our cabin. We had the best wood-fired pizza with caramel bacon on it.

Heading to get supper

Resting at the cabin

It was such a lovely covid-vacation. It was hard to come back home.
