Vibing with pumpkin spice and sweaters
I was looking back at some older blog posts today - back when I had tons of energy to blog every week and took grainy Instagram photos on my undeveloped android - and realized that my blog basically has said the same thing over and over again for the entire duration of its life. And that theme is: Summer is terrible here, but I really do like the fall. Who doesn't? Fall is amazing. It's cooler. The leaves change. We vibe with pumpkin spice and sweaters. What's not to love?
And since history is a circle on this blog, I am sticking to this theme. Fall is the creative energy here, folks. Don't fight it. Otherwise I would not be blogging at all. Too much time on the computer for work and what not. Also I get blue and forget that I do actually have fun and have thoughts that I can write down.
This blog also captures the mundane of life, which feels pretty blah in the moment, but then I look back at previous posts and am grateful for the still, small moments of my life that I've managed to capture.
So this is that blog post. I haven't traveled anywhere. I just sit at my work desk. And the world spins madly on. But here are the small moments I've lived in the past few autumnal weeks.
1. I cut my hair! I hate it! lol. It looks good in this photo because it was styled straight by my hair dresser. But now I remember how much better my hair lays when it is long. So I am growing it back out. The good thing is that getting it chopped off was not devastating. I wanted to try it and I did. The weird thing is that I almost fainted during my appointment. I have no idea why. It was a very strange moment for all of us. But after some chocolate and water, I felt a lot better.
2. I made a 3D sugar skull cake for spooky season and Dia de los muertos. I am very proud of it. My piping skills still need a lot of practice, but for not really having any idea how to make a 3D cake, I think it turned out great. It sat on our bookshelf for a few weeks. (I've decided not to eat the cakes that take me forever to decorate. They are usually stale by the time I am done with them anyway)3. Speaking of spooky season, I also made an ofrenda aka a home alter to honor the ancestors. (I still continue to love these shelves my dad built us last summer)4. Happy hour at my house with Tina and Kate. I made whipped feta and a cocktail I named "It's the great pumpkin, Charlie Brown." Honestly, I would become a mixologist just so I could name the drinks fun things.4. Tina and I went to go see David Sedaris one Saturday evening. I had never been to author event and it was really fun to hear him read some of his works live.5. We're hosting for Thanksgiving this year and I thought it would be fun to find a vintage pitcher set for the holiday. I found this gorgeous one at a local antique shop and remembered how fun it is to treasure hunt
