Sweet June, again

Sweet June was here once again. I tend to be bias towards this month because it happens to be my birthday month. And I revel in my birthday, generally speaking. I did, however, get the nastiest summer cold that lasted for about two weeks. So that did put a damper on things, including my birthday. But still! June was lovely.

Since this is just a reporting blog now, I will continue to report on what I've been doing over the past few weeks.

1. Levent and I went on a hike at Highbanks Metro Park. (Poor Tito couldn't come because they don't allow dogs on the main trails for some reason). It was a lovely (and hot) afternoon of hiking around the trails and having a mini picnic on a park bench along the trail). This was one of my goals this year, so I am happy that we made it happen at least one time. Maybe in the fall we'll try again.

2. My cousin Betha and I went and saw the Broadway musical Kimberly Akimbo. We both had never heard of this musical before and decided just to go in blind since Blake gave us the tickets for free! It was a lot of fun. And honestly the best seats I've had at the Ohio theatre so far. (Don't kid yourself, they were still in the balcony).
3. East Fork Pottery is a pottery company from Asheville, North Carolina that I love dearly. (We use their plates and bowls). They had a seconds sale pop up in Columbus. My new friend Alyssa (who is also a big fan) naturally decided to go. However, we decided not to be hard core about it and didn't go super early to wait in line. Instead, we went to Dough Mama to have coffee (or in my case, matcha and a biscuit) before heading over to the pop up sale. In hindsight, we should've gotten there a little bit earlier since they were sold out of a lot of stuff by the time we actually got in the building. (We still had a wait in a fairly long line). Regardless, I still managed to get a side plate in the color I was hoping to get. So not all was lost. lol. Plus, I had a very enjoyable time hanging out with Alyssa.
4. This year, I once again headed downtown to the Columbus arts festival. It was a fun solo date. I looked at a lot of very cool art, bought a print, ate some lumpia from a food truck and had a cranberry slushie cocktail. All in all, a delight.

5.  My birthday! I was still battling my cold during my birthday unfortunately, but I endured anyway. In the morning, Levent and I went to the farmer's market in Clintonville to buy Turkish pastries for breakfast and flowers for me. In the afternoon, we went to my favorite Columbus bookstore and I bought myself a book. (This is my new birthday tradition). (I picked a staff recommendation kind of randomly since they were out of the book I had wanted to buy. And I ended up loving it so much!). Afterwards, we got matcha and I headed back home to my puzzle. Instead of going out for summer (because of my cold), we got take out from Bendi Wok n Bar, which is an Asian restaurant in German village, and watched a movie. We ended the day with an Oreo ice cream cake from Graeter's Ice cream. It was a lovely day, despite not feeling the best.
6. I went to the beach with my parents. It was lovely. More on this later. (It's getting it's own blog post).
7. After I got back from my trip, we celebrated my birthday with the Miller's at family dinner. We got takeout from Cilantro Latin Bistro's food truck (arepas) and enjoyed a raspberry and chocolate cake that Brendan made. I am happy to stretch my birthday celebrations out as long as possible. (I still want to go out to eat with Levent).
And that was my June!

XOXO
