A quiet, cozy Thanksgiving
As I write this, it suddenly feels like we are deep into winter. Here we are again in the cold and dark of winter. But actually most of November was pretty mild. It wasn't until Thanksgiving weekend when it was like, okay we're really doing this now.
Thanksgiving, like November, was pretty quiet this year, which is honestly kind of how I like it. We celebrated with the Millers a week early (since my brothers-in-law were heading down to VA for the holiday) with all the fixings.
So on Thanksgiving proper, Levent and I had couchgiving, which is what we used to do in Kansas. (Simply meaning that our plans were do to nothing, eat some good food on the couch and watch TV). It was great and very relaxing.
Levent had Friday off, which was lovely. (I took the day off too. I don't get it as a holiday, which, honestly, is a crime). We used our joint day off to go see a movie at where we have a membership. So basically this means we get to see movies for free.I also spent part of the day decorating for Christmas. I never used to decorate this early. (I used to have to wait until December in order for it to be time to decorate). But the older I get, the less I care about that. It brings me a lot of joy to decorate right after Thanksgiving. So I do. I also made my first batch of Christmas cookies.
And finally, on Saturday I finally got around to making this apple cider cruller recipe I had been eyeing every fall for years. It was a lot of work (and actually maybe not my favorite recipe ever), but I was overall pleased with the result (despite them not really tasting too much like apple cider). It was a very homebody, long Thanksgiving weekend. Besides walking the dog and getting my flu/COVID shot at the pharmacy, I honestly didn't really leave the apartment at all. This used to really bug me. I would get so antsy in our basement apartment and need to go somewhere just to get out of there. But that's actually changed for me. I don't mind being down there, for the most part. Sure, I still have my moments, but I think I've basically acclimated to it. This feels huge, since there is no telling how long we're going to be down there. And maybe I won't always feel that way, but I was happy to be in my hobbit hole for the cozy Thanksgiving weekend.
